Sago Palm
Cycas revoluta

Sago Palm is a bold, architectural cycad prized for its symmetrical form and strong visual presence. Although often grouped with palms, it is an ancient plant species valued in landscaping for its durability, low maintenance, and ability to create structured, high-impact planting designs.

Key attributes

Foliage: Stiff, glossy dark green fronds radiate in a perfect circular crown, creating a striking, sculptural effect.

Hardiness: Extremely tough once established; tolerant of heat, drought, and coastal conditions. Best suited to frost-light environments or protected positions.

Growth: Slow-growing, producing new flushes of fronds seasonally; ideal for long-term landscape structure.

Form: Compact, symmetrical rosette atop a thick, textured trunk; excellent for feature planting and formal layouts.

Planting & care notes

Soil: Requires free-draining soil; performs best in sandy or well-structured mixes. Avoid heavy, wet soils.

Light: Thrives in full sun to part shade; tolerates a range of light conditions once established.

Water: Low water requirements once established; avoid overwatering, particularly in cooler conditions.

Maintenance: Very low. Remove older fronds as they yellow to maintain a clean, symmetrical appearance; minimal ongoing care required.

Fertiliser: Benefits from occasional feeding with a slow-release fertiliser to support healthy growth and colour.

Availability and supply: We stock a range of grades from small container plants through to advanced, trunked specimens suitable for high-impact landscape use. Ideal for landscapers, developers, and retail customers. Contact us for current availability, sizing, and project pricing.
